What Mosey is
Mosey is an app for finding places to eat in Ireland, and for remembering the ones worth going back to. This site is its public face: the places, the dishes and the ratings people have chosen to publish, with no account needed to read any of it.
Where the places come from
Most places on Mosey started as an entry in public map data, the same way they appear on any map. Nobody at the venue had to do anything for it to be here, which is why a listing can be thin, and why the opening hours on it are worth confirming before you travel.
A venue can claim its listing, and once it has, the details are the venue's own: its hours, its menu, its photographs, its replies to ratings.
Where the ratings come from
Every rating on Mosey was written by somebody in the app about a meal they had. A rating is a visit rather than a verdict, so the same person can rate the same place again months later and both count, which is why a place's page can show one person's opinion changing over time.
Ratings that have been reported and upheld are removed from the public record, and are not counted anywhere.
What Mosey Gold means
Gold is a mark a place earns from its ratings. It appears in place of the score rather than beside it, so a Gold place shows the mark and the number that earned it, never a badge on top of a rating.
A place earns Gold when its average is high enough, and keeps it until that average falls some way further, so the mark does not flicker on and off over a single rating. Ratings a venue's own owners left are excluded from that average, as are ratings that have been removed.
What you cannot buy
Gold is the only thing on Mosey that changes how prominent a place is, and it cannot be bought.
Venues can advertise on Mosey, subscribe to tools, and take payments through it. None of that moves a place up a page, enlarges its card, or puts it on this site. The only signal permitted to do that is the one that has to be earned from ratings.
Why the photographs look like this
Almost none of the food photography here came from a venue. It was taken by customers at the table, on their phones, next to a rating they were writing. It is not styled and it is not stock, and that is the point of it: it shows what the plate actually looks like when it arrives.
