Delivery for Irish Restaurants at 6% Commission
Mosey · 22 September 2026 · 4 min read

Mosey delivery runs at 6% commission — a fraction of what the large aggregators take — and leaves you in control of where you deliver, what you charge for it, and who carries the food.
Delivery zones you actually control
You add a zone by typing the area names, and Mosey maps the boundaries for you. Each zone carries its own:
- delivery fee
- minimum order value
- estimated delivery time
When a customer enters an address, Mosey checks it against your zones and either applies the right fee or tells them they are outside your area — before they have built a basket and become disappointed.
Your drivers, or somebody else's
You can invite your own drivers, who get their orders by email and move them through the delivery statuses.
If you do not have drivers, you can join a driver pool. A nearby place that already runs drivers shares them with you: they set a flat fee of between €1 and €10 per delivery, Mosey takes 15% of that flat fee, and provider venues are settled weekly. You pay the flat fee and can mark up the delivery fee you show your own customers. It is how a small kitchen offers delivery without hiring anybody.
The order lifecycle
Orders arrive on the kitchen display and move through pending, confirmed, preparing, ready and out for delivery. You set the estimated delivery time your customer sees, so the expectation is yours rather than a platform's guess.
What it costs
- 6% commission on the order total, after any discount
- 0% on tips — customers can tip for up to 24 hours after delivery and you keep all of it
- Stripe's card fee passed through at cost
- 23% VAT on Mosey's commission
- Driver pool, if you use one: a flat €1 to €10 per delivery set by the provider
Customers pay a small booking fee that scales with the order: €0.30 under €10.00, €0.60 under €30.00, €0.90 under €50.00, €1.29 on orders of €50.00 or more. It is quoted inclusive of VAT, and it is the only fee a customer pays on top of the food and any delivery charge.
Why 6% rather than a third of the order
Commission around 30% is common in the sector, and over a busy week that is real money leaving a business that could have stayed in it.
On €1,000 of delivery orders, commission at 6% is €60. At 30% it would be €300 — €240 a week of difference on identical orders. On a venue doing €4,000 a week in delivery, that is most of a wage.
6% covers the genuine cost of supporting a delivery operation and nothing more.
The other difference is who the customer belongs to. On Mosey they are ordering from you, in an app where your place has a profile, a menu, ratings and a loyalty programme, and you can reach them again. On a marketplace you are renting a slot beside your competitors, and the customer is theirs.
Setting up delivery
- Account → Features → Delivery.
- Connect Stripe from Business Info → Account Setup.
- Get your menu in — build it by hand or photograph your existing one and let the scanner read it.
- Draw your zones. Type the area names and Mosey maps them, then set each zone's fee, minimum order and estimated time. Start tight; you can widen later.
- Sort drivers — see below.
- Set your delivery hours, which are often shorter than your opening hours.
- Place a test order to your own address and walk it through to delivered.
Three ways to have drivers
You do not need to hire anybody to start.
- Your own drivers. Invite them from the Drivers section; they get orders by email and move them through the statuses.
- A driver pool. A nearby place that already runs drivers shares them with you at a flat €1 to €10 per delivery that they set. You pay the flat fee and can mark up what you show your customers.
- A contractor. Delivery driver is one of 33 active categories in the Mosey contractor marketplace. Post an open shift or send a direct offer for a specific night, with payment held in escrow until the work is confirmed. It suits a venue that needs a driver for a Friday rather than every day.
What it connects to
- Contractors — hire a delivery driver for a shift without putting anyone on payroll.
- Loyalty — every delivery order counts as a visit automatically.
- Memberships — free delivery is one of the benefits a membership can carry, which is a strong reason for a regular to subscribe.
- Vouchers and promotions — both apply at checkout.
- Boost — tell your followers and nearby opted-in customers the day you start delivering.
For your customers
Customers see your delivery fee and minimum before they order, and their address is checked up front. They can order with friends and split the bill, tip after delivery, and self-cancel within two minutes with an automatic refund. Vouchers, promotions and membership benefits apply at checkout, and the order counts as a loyalty visit.
Questions
Common questions
What does Mosey charge on delivery orders?
6% commission on the order total, plus 23% VAT on that commission. Tips carry no commission at all. Stripe's card fee is passed through at cost with no Mosey markup.
How do I create my first delivery zone?
In the Delivery section, add a zone by typing the area names. Mosey maps the boundaries, and you then set that zone's delivery fee, minimum order value and estimated delivery time.
What if a customer is outside my delivery area?
Mosey checks their address against your zones at checkout and tells them before they build an order, rather than letting them get to payment and fail.
What if I do not have my own drivers?
Join a driver pool. A nearby place shares its drivers with you at a flat fee of €1 to €10 per delivery, set by them. You can mark up the delivery fee you show your own customers.
How does driver pool payment work?
The provider sets the flat per-delivery fee, Mosey takes 15% of it, and provider venues are settled weekly by Stripe transfer. You pay the flat fee as the hirer.
Can I use my own drivers?
Yes. Invite them from the Drivers section and they receive orders by email and move them through the delivery statuses.
How do tips on delivery work?
Customers can tip for up to 24 hours after delivery. Tips carry 0% commission, so 100% reaches you.
Can a customer cancel a delivery order?
They can self-cancel within two minutes of placing it, with an automatic refund. After that it is your decision and they are directed to contact you.
Why is the customer total higher than the food?
The total is the food, your delivery fee for their zone, and a booking fee that scales with the order — €0.30 under €10.00, €0.60 under €30.00, €0.90 under €50.00, €1.29 on orders of €50.00 or more — quoted inclusive of VAT.
