Order Ahead and Delivery for Irish Food Businesses

Mosey · 22 September 2026 · 6 min read

Mosey lets your place take orders directly from customers, for collection or delivery, without handing a quarter of every order to an aggregator. Order Ahead runs at 1.5% commission and delivery at 6%, and you keep control of your menus, your hours, your zones and your kitchen.

Two ways to take an order, and you choose either or both

Order Ahead is collection. A customer orders and pays in the app, picks a time slot, and collects. It runs at 1.5% — the same rate as the Mosey Pay till — because a collection order costs us almost nothing to carry and should cost you almost nothing too.

Delivery runs at 6%, which reflects the real operational cost of getting food to a door. You can use your own drivers, or share drivers with a nearby place through a driver pool.

Most places turn on one and add the other later. Both are toggled from Account, then Features.

What your kitchen actually sees

Orders arrive on a kitchen display that shows every active ticket, so your line can work them in order. An order moves through a clear lifecycle you drive from the dashboard — pending, confirmed, preparing, ready, and then out for delivery or collected.

Scheduled orders stay hidden until it is time to start them, so nobody begins prep on a Friday order on Wednesday afternoon.

Pickup slots protect your kitchen

For Order Ahead you set fixed pickup slots, each with a maximum number of orders. When a slot fills, it hides itself. The cap holds even when two customers check out at the same instant, so a lunchtime rush cannot land twelve orders on the same six minutes.

Delivery zones carry their own rules

You add zones by typing area names and Mosey maps the boundaries. Each zone can have its own delivery fee, its own minimum order and its own estimated time. When a customer enters an address, Mosey applies the right fee or tells them they are outside your area before they build a basket.

Curbside pickup

On Order Ahead you can let customers stay in the car. They tap to say they have arrived, you get a notification, and their car description shows on the order so a runner can find them. It keeps your counter clear and it is the difference between a parent with a sleeping child ordering from you or not.

Group ordering and bill split

A customer can start a cart and invite friends by username. Each person adds their own items, and at checkout the organiser either pays for everything or taps Split the bill.

On a split, each person pays their own share, including a fair portion of any delivery fee. Your kitchen is paid in full either way — the order only fires once everyone has paid, and if anyone has not paid twelve hours before pickup, the organiser's saved card covers the rest automatically.

This is the part most ordering systems do not have, and it is why a table of six orders from you instead of arguing over a card machine.

What it costs

  • Order Ahead: 1.5% commission
  • Delivery: 6% commission
  • Tips: 0%. Every cent of a tip goes to you
  • Stripe's card processing is passed through at cost, with no Mosey markup
  • 23% VAT applies to Mosey's commission, deducted automatically through Stripe

Customers pay a small booking fee that scales with the order: €0.30 under €10.00, €0.60 under €30.00, €0.90 under €50.00, €1.29 on orders of €50.00 or more. It is quoted inclusive of VAT, and it is the only fee a customer pays on top of the food and any delivery charge.

For your customers

Customers browse places near them, switch between Delivery and Order Ahead, and build a cart. They can save a cart for 24 hours, or schedule an order up to seven days ahead with the card charged now and the order firing automatically at the right time.

Vouchers, promotions and membership benefits all apply at checkout. A delivery or Order Ahead order counts as a loyalty visit automatically. And there is a two-minute self-cancel window after checkout with an automatic refund, which removes the most common reason a customer rings a busy kitchen.

What the commission difference actually looks like

Commission rates around 30% are common in the sector. The arithmetic is worth doing on your own numbers rather than taking anyone's word for it.

On €1,000 of orders in a week:

Commission You keep
Order Ahead on Mosey (1.5%) €15 €985
Delivery on Mosey (6%) €60 €940
A platform charging 30% €300 €700

That is €240 a week staying in the business on delivery, and €285 a week on collection. Over a year, on that volume, the collection difference alone is roughly €14,800.

The other difference is who the customer belongs to. On Mosey they are ordering from you, in an app where your place has a profile, a menu, ratings and a loyalty programme. You can reach them again. On a marketplace you are renting a slot beside your competitors and the customer is theirs.

Setting it up

It takes about half an hour end to end.

  1. Turn it on. Account → Features → toggle Order Ahead, Delivery, or both.
  2. Connect Stripe. Business Info → Account Setup → Connect Stripe Account. This is how you get paid, so it has to be done before you can take an order.
  3. Get your menu in. Build it by hand, or photograph your existing menu and let Mosey's scanner read the items, prices, descriptions and sections for you. A re-scan matches items by name rather than duplicating them, so keeping it current is quick.
  4. Set your hours. Separate from your opening hours if your kitchen closes earlier.
  5. Order Ahead: add pickup slots. Set the times and a maximum number of orders for each.
  6. Delivery: add zones. Type the area names, then set each zone's fee, minimum order and estimated time.
  7. Delivery: sort drivers. Invite your own, join a driver pool, or hire a delivery driver from the contractor marketplace.
  8. Place a test order on your own venue and walk it through the kitchen display so your staff have seen it once before a customer does.

What it connects to

Ordering is not a silo, and most of the value shows up where it meets everything else:

  • Loyalty — every order counts as a visit automatically, so ordering feeds the programme with no staff action.
  • Vouchers and promotions — both apply at checkout, so a promotion can drive collection orders on a quiet Tuesday.
  • Memberships — member benefits like free delivery or a members-only discount apply automatically to their orders.
  • Contractors — no drivers of your own? Delivery driver is one of 33 contractor categories, alongside chefs, baristas and event staff.
  • Mosey Pay — the in-store till runs at the same 1.5% as Order Ahead, so a customer paying at the counter and one collecting an order cost you the same.
  • Boost — push a new menu, a promotion or the fact you have started delivering to your followers and to nearby customers who opted in.

Getting paid

Customers pay through Stripe and you are paid via Stripe Connect, with funds reaching your bank on your normal Stripe payout schedule. Refunds stay your decision — Mosey processes the payment on your behalf and does not decide refunds, with the single exception of that automatic two-minute self-cancel.

Questions

Common questions

How do I enable Order Ahead or delivery?

Go to Account, then Features, and toggle on Order Ahead or Delivery, or both. A "Delivery & Order Ahead" section then appears in your sidebar where you configure zones, slots and drivers.

What does Mosey charge on orders?

Order Ahead (collection) is 1.5% commission and delivery is 6%. Tips carry no commission at all. Customers pay a booking fee that scales with the order — €0.30 under €10.00, €0.60 under €30.00, €0.90 under €50.00, €1.29 on orders of €50.00 or more — and 23% VAT applies to Mosey's commission.

Why is Order Ahead cheaper than delivery?

A collection order has no courier leg and almost no operational cost to carry, so it runs at 1.5%, the same rate as our in-store till. Delivery is 6% because getting food to a door genuinely costs more to support.

What happens when a pickup slot fills up?

It hides itself automatically, so customers can only choose slots your kitchen can still handle. The cap is enforced even when two people check out at the same moment.

Can customers order together and split the bill?

Yes. One person starts a cart and invites friends by username, and everyone adds their own items. At checkout the organiser can pay for everything or split it, in which case each person pays their own share. Your kitchen is paid in full either way.

What if I do not have my own drivers?

You can invite your own drivers, or join a driver pool and share drivers with a nearby place that already has them. The provider sets a flat fee per delivery and you can mark up the fee you show your own customers.

Can a customer cancel an order?

A customer can self-cancel within two minutes of placing an order, and that refund is automatic. After two minutes it is your decision, and they are directed to contact you.

How do tips work?

Customers can tip on delivery orders for up to 24 hours after delivery. Tips carry 0% Mosey commission, so 100% of a tip reaches you.

Do orders count towards loyalty?

Yes. If you run a loyalty programme, a delivery or Order Ahead order automatically counts as a visit, with no action needed from you or the customer.

When do I get paid?

Customers pay through Stripe and you are paid via Stripe Connect, arriving in your bank on your normal Stripe payout schedule.
