Order Ahead: Collection Ordering at 1.5% Commission
Mosey · 22 September 2026 · 4 min read

Order Ahead is collection ordering. A customer orders and pays in the app, chooses a pickup time, and walks in to collect. It runs at 1.5% commission, the same rate as the Mosey Pay till, and it is the cheapest way to take a paid order on Mosey.
Why collection is priced the way it is
A collection order has no courier, no zone to map and no delivery leg to support. It costs us very little to carry, so it costs you very little to run. 1.5% is deliberately low enough that Order Ahead becomes a habit rather than an occasional experiment.
Pickup slots that protect the kitchen
You set fixed pickup slots and give each one a maximum number of orders. A full slot hides itself, so the next customer picks a time your kitchen can actually hit. The cap holds under simultaneous checkouts, which is exactly when a naive system lets a rush through.
Scheduled orders, up to seven days ahead
A customer can schedule an order between thirty minutes and seven days in advance. The card is charged at checkout and the order activates automatically at fire-time, staying out of your kitchen display until then. Office lunches and Friday collections stop being phone calls.
Curbside pickup
Let customers stay in the car. They tap to say they have arrived, you get a notification, and their car description appears on the order so a runner can find them without a search. It keeps the counter clear at peak and it opens you up to customers who cannot easily park and queue.
Saved carts
A customer can save a cart and come back to it within 24 hours. Most abandoned baskets are interruptions rather than decisions, and this recovers a good share of them.
What it costs
- 1.5% commission on the order total, after any voucher or promotion discount
- 0% on tips
- Stripe's card fee passed through at cost
- 23% VAT on Mosey's commission
Customers pay a small booking fee that scales with the order: €0.30 under €10.00, €0.60 under €30.00, €0.90 under €50.00, €1.29 on orders of €50.00 or more. It is quoted inclusive of VAT, and it is the only fee a customer pays on top of the food and any delivery charge.
For your customers
Order Ahead removes the queue. A customer orders, pays, picks a time and collects, with vouchers, promotions and membership benefits applied at checkout, and the order counted as a loyalty visit automatically. There is a two-minute self-cancel with an automatic refund if they change their mind immediately.
Queue-skipping is the feature customers actually talk about. A morning coffee run that takes four minutes instead of twelve is the reason someone chooses you over the place next door, and it costs you 1.5%.
The commission difference on collection
Rates around 30% are common in the sector, and they are usually the same whether the order is delivered or collected — even though a collection order has no courier at all.
On €1,000 of collection orders, commission at 1.5% is €15. At 30% it would be €300. That is €285 a week on the same food, out of the same kitchen, handed over the same counter.
Setting up Order Ahead
- Account → Features → Order Ahead. A new section appears in your sidebar.
- Connect Stripe from Business Info → Account Setup, so you can be paid.
- Get your menu in. Build it by hand or photograph your existing menu and let the scanner extract items, prices and sections. Re-scanning matches by name rather than duplicating.
- Add pickup slots with a maximum number of orders each, so a rush cannot land on one six-minute window.
- Set kitchen hours if they differ from your opening hours.
- Turn on curbside if you have parking, and decide whether to ask for a car description.
- Place a test order and walk it through the kitchen display before a customer does.
What it connects to
- Mosey Pay — the in-store till runs at the same 1.5%, so counter and collection cost you the same.
- Loyalty — each order counts as a visit automatically.
- Vouchers and promotions — both apply at checkout, which makes Order Ahead a good home for a quiet-hours offer.
- Delivery — add it later at 6% without setting anything up twice.
Questions
Common questions
What is Order Ahead?
Order Ahead is collection ordering. A customer orders and pays in the Mosey app, picks a pickup time slot, and collects in person. There is no delivery leg.
What is the difference between Order Ahead and Delivery?
Order Ahead is collection, at 1.5% commission. Delivery brings the order to the customer's address, at 6%, and needs delivery zones and drivers. Many places offer both.
How much does Order Ahead cost my business?
1.5% commission on the order total, the same rate as the Mosey Pay till, plus 23% VAT on that commission. Tips carry no commission. Stripe's card fee is passed through at cost.
How do collection time slots work?
You define slots and set a maximum number of orders for each. Customers choose a slot at checkout, and a slot that reaches its cap hides itself automatically.
Can customers order in advance?
Yes, between thirty minutes and seven days ahead. The card is charged at checkout and the order only appears in your kitchen display at fire-time.
How do I enable curbside pickup?
Turn it on in your Order Ahead settings. Customers then get an "I'm here" button when their order is ready, and you can ask for a car description so staff can spot them.
Why is the customer total higher than the items they chose?
Customers pay a booking fee that scales with the order — €0.30 under €10.00, €0.60 under €30.00, €0.90 under €50.00, €1.29 on orders of €50.00 or more — quoted inclusive of VAT. On collection there is no delivery fee.
Do Order Ahead orders count towards loyalty?
Yes, automatically. Each order counts as one visit on your loyalty programme with no action from staff.
