Hiring, Staff and Training for Hospitality Businesses

Mosey · 22 September 2026 · 5 min read

Hospitality hiring is constant, fast and competitive, and most tools are built for a corporate process that does not resemble it. Mosey covers the whole span: finding people, hiring them, onboarding them properly, and training them.

Posting a role is free

There is no listing fee, no application fee and no commission on a hire. You create a role from your dashboard, choosing from hospitality-specific role types — chef, barista, server, kitchen porter, bartender, manager and more — set the work pattern, write a description and add the salary.

Salary fields are built in and required on a live listing, which keeps you compliant with pay-transparency rules and gets you better applicants besides.

Once live, the role appears on the Mosey Jobs worker site within minutes, and because roles publish with proper job-posting structured data they are eligible to show in Google for Jobs. Applicants find you from outside Mosey too.

The pipeline

Every application lands on a drag-and-drop board grouped by stage: applied, screening, interview, offer, hired. Open a card and you see the worker's profile, cover note, answers to your screening questions and their CV.

From there you can message them directly, propose interview times — including offering a batch of slots to several candidates and letting them claim what suits, which fills a schedule fast without double-booking — and move them forward.

After a hire, both sides leave a blind rating that stays hidden until both have submitted, so feedback is honest rather than retaliatory. Strong candidates you did not hire can be saved to a talent pool, with their consent, for the next time a role opens.

Hire a specialist by the shift

Sometimes you do not need an employee. The contractor marketplace has 33 active categories, and it is much wider than most people expect:

  • Kitchen and floor — chef, sous chef, line cook, pastry chef, kitchen porter, barista, bartender, server, host, runner, sommelier, floor manager, cleaner, dishwasher
  • Delivery — delivery driver, which is how a venue offers delivery without hiring anyone
  • Events and content — event staff, photographer, videographer, food stylist, social media manager, copywriter, graphic designer
  • Specialists — menu consultant, accountant, marketing consultant, HR consultant, business advisor, financial advisor, maintenance, EHO and HACCP consultant, translator, sommelier coach, mixology trainer

You browse profiles with rates, availability, certifications and ratings, then either send a direct offer for a specific person and time, or post an open shift for anyone qualified to apply.

Payment is held in escrow: you are charged when you book, the contractor delivers, and the money is released when you confirm. You never pay for work that did not happen, and they never work without knowing the money is there.

Commission: 7% on the contractor's service fee.

Onboarding that actually finishes

A hire becomes an employment record rather than a closed ticket. From there you can run a proper onboarding checklist, issue a contract for in-app signature, and hold right-to-work documents, certificates and handbook acknowledgements in one vault against that person.

The contract is yours — Mosey provides the mechanism and the audit trail, not the legal wording.

Train them with courses

You can build courses and assign them to staff, or sell them publicly to anyone.

  • Internal staff training costs €3.99 per person, per course. No commission, no revenue share — a flat fee for putting your own team through your own training.
  • Selling a course publicly runs at 5% venue commission plus a 5% buyer fee.

Courses can be online, in person or hybrid, with quizzes, practical sign-offs, scheduled sessions with QR check-in, waitlists and automatic certificates on completion.

For a venue that has to prove HACCP or allergen training, having the course, the completion record and the certificate in the same place as the employment record is the point.

Reaching workers faster

If a role is urgent, you can pay to push it: €0.10 per worker for a broadcast, or €0.30 per worker for an Immediate Start alert. Your first boost of a given type is half price.

What it costs

Posting a role free

Selling a course 5% venue commission + 5% buyer fee
Job broadcast €0.10 per worker · Immediate Start €0.30

Setting it up

  1. Post one role — it is free, so there is nothing to weigh up. Fill the salary fields properly.
  2. Work the board rather than your inbox; every applicant lands in one place.
  3. Propose interviews in batches when you are hiring more than one person.
  4. Save the good ones you did not hire to your talent pool, with their consent.
  5. Try a contractor for the next one-off — a photographer for a menu shoot is a low-risk first booking.
  6. Put your induction into a course once, and assign it to every new starter after that.

What it connects to

  • Delivery — hire a delivery driver as a contractor instead of employing one.
  • Menus — book a food stylist or photographer, then use the shots on your dishes.
  • Unified inbox — applicant and contractor conversations arrive alongside your customer chats.

Questions

Common questions

What does it cost to post a job?

Nothing. There is no listing fee, no application fee and no commission on a hire. Any pricing change would come with 30 days notice.

What does the contractor marketplace charge?

7% commission on the contractor's service fee. Payment is held in escrow and released when you confirm the work was done.

What kinds of contractors can I hire?

There are 33 active categories. Kitchen and floor roles, delivery drivers, event staff, photographers, videographers, food stylists, and specialists like menu consultants, accountants, HR advisors and HACCP consultants.

Can I hire a driver for delivery instead of employing one?

Yes. Delivery driver is one of the contractor categories, so you can book one for a specific night rather than putting somebody on payroll.

How does escrow protect me?

You are charged when you book and the money is held. The contractor delivers, you confirm, and only then is the payment released. You never pay for work that did not happen.

What does staff training cost?

€3.99 per person, per course for your own team. Selling a course publicly is 5% venue commission plus a 5% buyer fee.

Can I run in-person training, not just online?

Yes. Courses can be online, in person or hybrid, with scheduled sessions, QR self-check-in, waitlists and attendance tracked against completion.

Do staff get certificates?

Yes, issued automatically on completion, verifiable and downloadable as a PDF. They are held against the employment record alongside right-to-work documents and handbook acknowledgements.

How do interview ratings work?

After a hire both sides rate each other, and neither rating is visible until both have been submitted. That keeps feedback honest rather than retaliatory.

What does it cost to push a role to more workers?

€0.10 per worker for a broadcast and €0.30 per worker for an Immediate Start alert, with your first boost of a type at half price. Posting itself stays free.
