Mosey Queue: Manage Walk-Ins Without a Booking System
Mosey · 22 September 2026 · 3 min read

Not every place takes bookings, and plenty that do still live or die on the walk-in. Mosey Queue is the door, and it is free on every tier — including free, and without turning reservations on at all.
How it works at the door
A guest scans a code on the way in and joins the queue from their own phone. No app, no account, no download. They enter a name, a number and a party size, and they get a message when the table is ready.
They can then go for a pint next door instead of standing in your entrance, which is better for them and considerably better for the twelve people trying to get past.
What you control
- Typical wait per party, so the estimate the guest sees is yours rather than a guess
- A maximum queue length, so you stop taking names you cannot honour
- Pause, for when the kitchen is under and the honest answer is not tonight
- Join-ahead, letting people join from up to an hour away, or not
Every one of those is a way of saying no gracefully, which is the part of running a door that software usually gets wrong.
Why the estimate matters more than the queue
A guest told "about forty minutes" who waits thirty-five is happy. A guest told "shouldn't be long" who waits thirty-five is angry. Same table, same wait, entirely different review.
The estimate comes from your typical-wait setting and the parties ahead of them, so it moves as the room does.
It works on its own
This is the part worth being clear about: Queue is not a reservations feature with the price hidden somewhere. A chipper, a coffee shop or a pizza place that has never taken a booking and never intends to can run the queue and nothing else, at no cost.
If you do take bookings, the queue sits beside them — the walk-in reserve you hold back is respected, so a queue cannot eat the tables you have already promised.
Setting it up
- Enable the queue from your dashboard. It appears as its own section.
- Set your typical wait per party. Be honest; the estimate is the whole product.
- Cap the queue at the number you can actually clear.
- Print the code and put it where people arrive, not behind the host stand.
- Try it yourself at a quiet hour so staff have seen the flow once.
What it connects to
- Reservations — the queue respects the walk-in capacity you hold back for it.
- Mosey Pay — the table pays at 1.5% without moving to a till.
- Loyalty — that payment counts as a visit automatically, so a walk-in becomes a regular.
- Ratings — a guest who was told the truth about the wait writes a different review.
Questions
Common questions
What does the walk-in queue cost?
Nothing. It is free on every tier, including the free one, and does not require a reservations subscription.
Do I need to use Mosey reservations to run a queue?
No. A place that has never taken a booking can run the queue on its own at no cost.
Do guests need the app?
No. They scan a code and join from their phone browser — no app, no account, no download.
How does the guest know when their table is ready?
They get a message. They can wait somewhere else instead of crowding your entrance.
How is the wait time estimated?
From the typical wait per party you set and the parties ahead of them, so it moves as the room does.
Can I stop taking names when we are full?
Yes — pause the queue, or set a maximum length so it stops accepting once you cannot honour more.
Can people join before they arrive?
Only if you allow it. Join-ahead is optional and you set how far in advance.
Does the queue clash with my bookings?
No. It respects the walk-in capacity you hold back, so it cannot eat tables you have already promised.
